Cricket E-Blast 12-5-14

For Starters…
Welcome back!!  Hope you all had a few days to relax and spend time with family.  The next 2 weeks are going to fly!

What's Hoppening?
  • The insurance committee met again this week to continue the discussion of plan designs, where premiums come from, comparables (public and private sector), and where we go next in the process.  Representatives from M3 were here to provide the information.
  • The Cluster Superintendents met this week and started to plan our PD for next year.  Edcamp style PD is back and hopefully through the use of Peer Mentoring grants we will have the opportunity to have a few more department or grade level connections.  Looking forward to getting that moving.
  • Going to keep this in for awhile...If you did not receive an invite to the Google+ page from let shoot me an email.  I tried to get as many people as possible while I was at Google Tech Academy last week. The Google+ community is open only to our staff...I am hoping it turns into a place where we can share articles, great ideas, and/or things going on in your classroom. Here is the link... https://plus.google.com/u/0/communities/106247918310540095234.  If you can not get in let me know...it means you will need a Google+ page or an invite.  Either way it is a quick fix.
  • The PD day on January 23rd will be a combination of self directed and district directed (Google Apps For Education specific) activities.  I know the HS utilizes that time for end of semester clean up and second semester organization so I still wanted to have some time available for that to continue.  The February 6th day will be more self directed based on your professional growth plans.
  • I appreciate the continued use of technology to engage and enhance the experience for our students.  This trend will clearly continue.  We have full intentions of bringing a 1:1 experience to the HS next year and as we plan for that transition we need to offer time and resource for everyone to feel comfortable with the process.  This will include training in the area of Google Apps For Education, blended learning, communications...and a multitude of topics that you bring our way.  I am hoping to provide sessions throughout the semester and then in the summer as well.
  • Elementary and Middle School Christmas party tomorrow! Thanks to April and Brad for putting it together and Jen for taking care of the White Elephant gifts...have a great time, everyone!
  • A number of staff members will be attending SLATE next week on Tuesday and Wednesday.  Great opportunity to find some new tools and network with other districts.  Good luck to Kristin Sandgren and Greg Larson who will be presenting a session on Tuesday afternoon! Follow the hashtag #SLATE2014 to see what is going on at the conference.

Cricket E-Blast 11-17-14

For Starters…
Hello everyone!! It is November 17...and though it feels like January 17th, we are only a few days from a much needed break.  The snow came way too early this year, but I appreciate your willingness to roll with it and make our learning spaces wonderful for kids.

What's Hoppening?
  • The reaction from parents during conference time has been great.  I truly appreciate your willingness to ensure they walk out the door feeling good about the direction their child is going.  Even when students are struggling, we need to give parents hope that things can and will get better if we are working together.  That is clearly the sense I received in discussions with families.
  • The insurance committee has met once and is scheduled to meet again within the month.  We are looking at other plan designs and comparable plans (school and non school).  We will then use the data provided through the survey to drive the discussion of where our district could potentially go.  We developed a timeline for the discussion so we have all the information we need prior to April 1, 2015, which is the earliest we can get our renewal rate.  If you have any questions, see committee members Karen Stuttgen, Jane Borofka, Jon Strand, Charlie Fitch, Andy Niedzwiecki, or Debby Schufletowski.  Great discussion...thanks in advance to committee members for helping us provide a recommendation to the board.
  • We are in the midst of planning our January 23rd staff development day (which will be here before we know it!).  There will be some Google Training for all staff members, as well as some choice through an Edcamp style opportunity.
  • November is Native American Awareness month.  The links below are provided to ensure we are teaching accurate content as it relates to Thanksgiving.  Please take a look...it is important.
  • The FCPD Emergency kits are in.  Instead of getting everyone together for training we are working with the department to provide a video for you to view on your own time.  Getting everyone in one room is proving to be difficult when we include EMS, a physician, and all of our staff.
  • Congrats to all of our Fall athletic teams! Great seasons and we are already into Winter sports!!

This week in Tweets...
It really is humbling to be able to represent our district at the White House this week.  A few things went into the application that set our district apart from the 900 that were nominated.  Our social media presence was clearly one of the pieces.  The change to the infrastructure that brought in more broadband access was another big piece.  The timeline we have established to implement devices in pockets, provide training, and grow those pockets over time was also part of the application.  I am looking forward to the discussions and providing a very loud voice on a national level to the work you all do.  When I was hired here I told the board that I may not be the best superintendent you will hire, but I will definitely be the loudest.  On Wednesday the White House gets to hear the story of an amazing group of students, teachers, and a community we all believe in.  I know I sound like a broken record...but BE PROUD of what you do, folks...it is astounding and continues to grow.

Keep adding @fccrickets to tweets and use the #gocrickets hashtag after a tweet to add to the wonderful story of the Crickets...or let us know how we can help get your story to the world.  Go Crickets.

E-Blast 10-24-14

For Starters…
Hello everyone!! The creativity around this building is phenomenal!! I love to walk around school and see kids creating.  The importance of being content creators continues to grow. This quote from
National Teacher of the Year Jeff Charnonneau exemplifies what we do in this building...and it is truly appreciated.  Kids are more likely to learn if they know there is someone at school who cares about them as a person.  Thank you for being that person to so many students.

What's Hoppening?
  • You may have heard people in other districts discussing getting their goals into Teachscape or another state model.  The DPI set out guidelines to get goals into the system, and many are taking that as a drop dead date.  We are not doing that...I talked to the DPI last week and they were completely fine with our process and getting everyone into Teachscape as the year progresses, and on our timeline.  Those on Rotation 1 are already in...we will work with everyone else throughout the year on a different timeline.
  • Thanks to all who participated in the insurance survey.  We will use that data to drive the discussion at the committee level. We have 5 staff members who have volunteered to serve on the committee. Meeting dates will be set up soon.
  • Thank you to the support staff groups who attended our merit pay discussion on October 15.  Your feedback was very valuable...we are trying to find a process that works for everyone and that has been difficult, but I appreciate your willingness to have the conversation and hope we can come up with a plan that meets your need.
  • Thanks to those who have provided feedback on the insurance survey.  That data will drive discussions for the group moving forward.  Much appreciated.
  • Board room use...we really want to encourage people to utilize the board room.  We updated the technology so it was a more usable space and would love to have more people in that room throughout the year.  Feel free to schedule it for team meetings, department meetings, classes, etc...
  • Repeat--October is connected educator month.  Here is a link to a list of activities happening (some physical, but most virtual) if you are interested.  http://connectededucatormonth2014.sched.org/
  • Cricket Chirp articles are due today! Send to editor@fallcreek.k12.wi.us
  • The FCPD was awarded a grant to put crisis kits in every classroom.  When the kits are assembled we will all get together to go over the contents.  The kits are smaller than a shoe box and we will have a designated area in each room for consistency.  More to come when we hear from the FCPD.
  • Best of luck to our CC team at Sectionals tomorrow and our Volleyball team in the Regional Final tomorrow night!

This week in Tweets...
This is the cover of next week's Time Magazine.  I know I get on my soap box a lot about telling the story of our school...but this is why.  When we allow others to tell the stories of what schools are, or were, we are faced with trying to justify what happens as opposed to
celebrating kids and the amazing work you all do every single day.  Our social media feed continues to grow and people are taking notice.  I love the story of Fall Creek...the amount of pride here is astounding...including the community in that journey can really help and dispel the outside views of what education is today.  Continue to do unbelievable things...if you post or tweet them out I will make sure they get to a larger audience.  If you want to add anything to our pages, just let me or Teresa know and we'll get it out to the public.  Be proud of what you do, folks...large numbers of kids, all with different needs and desires, learn because you make a connection with them.  That is what we do...and it is amazing.  So...add @fccrickets in the tweet and use the #gocrickets hashtag after a tweet to add to the wonderful story of the Crickets...or let us know how we can help get your story to the world. Stepping off soap box...Go Crickets.

E-Blast 10-13-14

For Starters…
Hello everyone!! What a fantastic Homecoming week! Thank you to everyone who helped out, Katie and the student council for the organization, and all the students who made it a great week.  There is something about getting everyone in the together that makes the experience so special.  When I walked in gym I say 3 seniors at the scorer's table waving and smiling at elementary kids on the other side.  I tried to snap a few pics quick, but none captured the joy in the eyes of both set of students.  It was incredible.

What's Hoppening?
  • Goal revisions are in and you should have heard from me regarding the status of your goal.  If not, please connect with me right away.
  • Tuesday and Wednesday of this week we will be going through Teachscape and WI Educator Effectiveness training. Those  on rotation 1 will have a chance to get everything into their Teachscape module and learn a little more about the process of EE.
  • Going to keep this in for awhile...If you did not receive an invite to the Google+ page from let shoot me an email.  I tried to get as many people as possible while I was at Google Tech Academy last week. • Parent/Teacher Conferences are under a month away....November 10 and 13.  Just a heads up as it will be here before we know it.
  • Thanks to those who have provided feedback on the insurance survey.  That data will drive discussions for the group moving forward.  Much appreciated.
  • Here is a link to some pics from Friday. Great day all around... https://www.flickr.com/photos/fallcreekcrickets/sets/72157648629310325/
  • We have been throwing the idea around of having a Cricket Store where we could have FC gear on hand and/or things made by our students (keychains, blankets, etc).  If you have any suggestions in how to get that rolling, please let me know.
  • October is connected educator month.  Here is a link to a list of activities happening (some physical, but most virtual) if you are interested.  http://connectededucatormonth2014.sched.org/

E-Blast 9-26-14

For Starters…
Hellooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo everyone!!!!! Thought I would add a few extra letters considering I forgot one this week.  Ha! By next week you will have a month under your belt!!! Thank you for a fantastic start to the school year.  The kids are doing exceptionally well and it is in great part due to the environment you have in your classroom.  ODR data clearly indicates that kids are living the expectations you have set for them and the follow through on your part has been great.

What's Hoppening?
  • Goal revisions are due next week.  If you still need to meet with me, I have time set aside on Monday and Tuesday.  If we can't make that timeline happen, just let me know.
  • Thank you to the Professional Growth Team for their work in helping staff with goals and the review that took place to ensure everyone had the components we were looking for this year.  The goals were well written and provided a solid structure for growth.  The group discussed circulating a new set of reviewers for the 2015-16 school year and that may be a good chance to get others involved in the review and coaching.  More to come on that in the spring, so review team members will remain the same throughout this year.
  • I hope we can send the majority of interested people to SLATE this year.  We had more applicants than we have spaces right now.
  • Repeat...still a few out there...If you did not receive an invite to the Google+ page from let shoot me an email.  I tried to get as many people as possible while I was at Google Tech Academy last week. The Google+ community is open only to our staff...I am hoping it turns into a place where we can share articles, great ideas, and/or things going on in your classroom. • How incredible is it to see our high school kids working with our elementary kids? Can't state this enough...the connection our students and families have to this place is amazing.
  • Teachscape seems to have fixed their issue, but I am still having trouble seeing the workflow.
  • State Report Cards...To be on the list of a handful of districts who have Exceeded Expectations the last 2 years is great and a credit to all of you...but if our scores did not fall into that category I would still say we are doing amazing things here.  Don't get hung up on scores, good or bad...continue to create relationships with kids and build from there.  If we see gaps in the trend data it is our job as administrators to find ways to help you.  That may come in additional support, finding exemplar programs, or just allowing time to dive into data and build better programming for students.  Let us worry about numbers...you worry about making sure the classroom is a place where students would choose to be even if they weren't required to be here.
  • I will be out of the office on Wednesday-Friday at the State Superintendent Conference in Madison.  Brian and Brad are both around if you need assistance, but I can also be reached by text or email if you need anything.

Cricket E-Blast 9-12-14

For Starters…
Congrats on a wonderful start to the school year.  Kids are engaged, staff interactions are positive, and parents have gone out of their way over the course of the last 2 weeks to tell me how much they love it here.  We have a great group of people in this school community...even when things aren't perfect, your willingness to get through it for kids is what makes you special.  I have no words for that (which is rare!! Ha!)

What's Hoppening?
  • Goals were due Wednesday.  I either have all goals or have talked to those people who needed some clarification.  Thank you so much for getting those in...we will start the review process and get any revisions to you soon.  I truly enjoy looking at what you all have chosen to focus on in terms of growing professionally.
  • At the end of last year we decided that convening an Insurance Committee would be in our best interest moving forward.  We are not going to wait too long on that process...it will start with a survey and at that time staff will be asked if they would like to be a member of the committee.  Debby will be coordinating that committee and will send out the survey in the coming weeks.
  • Repeat...If you haven't signed up for text alerts you can do that by sending a text with the message @fcstaff to 720-445-9824 or send an email to fcstaff@mail.remind.com and Remind will take you through the process.
  • Repeat...If you did not receive an invite to the Google+ page from let shoot me an email.  I tried to get as many people as possible while I was at Google Tech Academy last week. • Thanks to the members of the support staff who took time to discuss alternate pay structures.  Thanks also to those who sent me an email or came in to discuss it if they could not make the meeting.  I hope the meeting was valuable and I look forward to connecting with you to continue the discussion on October 15th.
  • Teachscape...if you are having trouble with Teachscape you are not alone.  Don't spend too much time in there...there is an issue with the workflow, but I think it is coordination of who the evaluator is on our side.  I will connect with Brian and Brad in hopes to get it resolved.
  • Challenge...You are now 2 weeks into the year.  I am sure that you have found a student that may not see eye to eye with you.  Find 5 minutes for 3 days in a row and connect with that student.  No discussions about school...just about their world.

Cricket E-Blast 8-26-14

For Starters…
Welcome back!!!! I hope the summer was restful and you are ready to jump into a new school year!  Here are a few things so I can get you out of our all staff meeting in a short amount of time...

What's Hoppening?
  • The individuals on Evaluation Rotation 1 will meet after our staff meeting today to go over the process of getting their goal into Teachscape.  Everyone else will have to do this as well, but we are looking for an easier way to get the goals in if you are not on the formal rotation year.  More to come, but continue to use the PGM forms we have on the O drive at this point.
  • Any training (bloodborne path etc) link will be sent via email to you so it can be done on your schedule.  We will need the completion letter for your files.
  • Screens! We are hoping to provide more opportunities to tell the story of our kids throughout the school so you will be seeing some monitors go up that will scroll announcements, twitter feeds, CricketTV, etc during the year.
  • Chromebook rollout!!!  We have a number of devices placed in school this year.  I have been asked if there will be more or what the future holds.  I am willing to find dollars to implement new technologies in classrooms, hallways, offices, or anywhere you need if it transforms the learning environment into something new for kids.  Let me know what you need and how it is going to transform what happens in your classroom and we can make it happen.
  • My 3...every year I ask you to come up with 3 things that you can look to at the end of the day and feel like your time was useful.  I wrote a blog post this summer that emphasized the importance of leading the learning.  We all need to be model learners for our students and being able to celebrate little victories along the way is important.  Here is a link to the blog post http://fcsuperintendent.blogspot.com/2014/07/learning-to-lead.html
  • If you haven't signed up for text alerts you can do that by sending a text with the message @fcstaff to 720-445-9824 or send an email to fcstaff@mail.remind.com and Remind will take you through the process.
  • If you did not receive an invite to the Google+ page from let shoot me an email.  I tried to get as many people as possible while I was at Google Tech Academy last week.
  • Here we go!!!! Another great year...looking forward to spending time with everyone and seeing both staff and students grow.  Good luck getting your classroom ready! Go Crickets.

Cricket E-Blast 5-21

For Starters…
Hi everyone!!! Less than 3 weeks to go!! The final push is on and I know it can be difficult to keep kids focused during this time of the year.  I appreciate the extended effort to keep kids engaged.

Elementary Staff...
2 Weeks at a Glance:
  • Wednesday, May 21-Grade 3 Field Trip
  • Thursday, May 22-PBIS Tier II
  • Thursday, May 22-A Night at the Zoo!
  • Friday, May 23-All Staff Collaboration 8:00-9:30
  • Monday, May 26-No School
  • Tuesday, May 27-Grade 5 Field Trip
  • Wednesday, May 28-Mentor Picnic
  • Thursday, May 29-PBIS Tier II
  • Wednesday May 28-Friday May 30 Joe Out.
What's Hoppening:
  • Thursday is our Spring program!  Looking forward to the performances of the kids and we also have our Art Show and giving bowls that evening.  It is going to be a wonderful event!  If you are supervising your classroom during that evening please fill out an additional pay form and turn it into the office.
  • Thanks for sending class lists my way.  I will continue to update until I have all of them and then we can get the lists out for the moving up day on June 6th.
  • It seems as though the schedule proposal has generated a great deal of discussion...the majority has been around planning or prep time. This link takes you to a 2 minute video that has the most accurate numbers I have in terms of the difference in prep time.  I have been sharing the number with the BLT to ensure that they are accurate.  Sometimes the first inclination is to compare our group to others in the building.  We're better than that...let's concentrate on how it impacts our own area.  Remember, if you have questions or suggestions please come to me or Brad.
  • We will be interviewing for our .5 FTE in 5th grade next week.
  • REPEAT...This google doc will help us plan for "wall needs" for next year.  If you are in need of bulletin boards, tack strips, or something else just add it to this doc.  Thanks! http://bit.ly/1eqaa7g

For the District...
What's Hoppening?
  • Our insurance plan has some changes to it.  Those will be sent out in the coming week when we get the info sheet from WEA.
  • REPEAT...One of the book studies I would like to look at this summer is The Leader in Me by Covey.  I was hoping to run a group that would discuss the book throughout the summer and utilize some social media tools to hold the discussion...specifically Twitter, Voxer and Google Hangouts.  This would give us a chance to read a great book and learn some social networking tools that could be helpful in the classroom.  If you are interested here is a link to a Leader in Me Summary and a Google Doc to sign up.
  • Thanks to all who helped out with graduation.  From getting the gym ready, to adjusting schedules, to the actual ceremony, to the evening events...most people in the building were impacted.  The graduates were great and it was really fun to see all of the smiles.  Congrats to everyone involved in creating a lasting memory for those families.
  • Growth goal reviews are getting close!  Reading the goals continues to be one of the highlights of my year.  The work you have put into the process is very impressive.  I am committed to ensuring everyone has feedback on their goal and appreciate you giving the time for me to do that. You spent all year working to get better and putting these together...it is clearly my job to value that and not just check a box.  So...I'll continue to work at it and hope to be done this week.  Thanks!

What's Hoppening?

  • Seniors continue to countdown the days as graduation is right around the corner! Thank you for encouraging them to finish strong...I know we have some students on the edge.

  • 1st grade student was outside about 3 weeks ago) and started eating the snow.  As he continued to eat he was asked to come in because the bell had sounded and everyone was lining up.  He stopped eating for a second...looked around...and responded, "But...there's more."  Such a great kid and has made incredible gains this year...that one made me smile.
For the District...
What's Hoppening?

Cricket E-Blast 3-9-14

For Starters…
Hi everyone!  I have a few friends who are building principals.  The are all taking part in a No Worksheet Week Challenge in their school next week.  I understand where they are coming from, but also know there are certain things that need to be run off throughout the course of a week.  I would only ask that you really take a look at the number of worksheets you are using this week.  I don't want to be the paper police and trust you to do your jobs knowing that using worksheets is clearly not the answer for student engagement...just something to think about this week as you plan for instruction. No need to report it, tally, or come up with excuses...just something to ponder.  Thanks!

Elementary Staff...
2 Weeks at a Glance:
  • Monday, March 10th-BLT 3:15
  • Monday, March 10th-PDP Verification 4:30-6:30
  • Tuesday, March 11-PBIS Tier I
  • Wednesday, March 12-All Staff Meeting 3:15
  • Thursday, March 13-Joe Out 11-1
  • Thursday, March 13-PBIS Tier II
  • Thursday, March 20-PBIS Tier II
What's Hoppening:
  • We are hoping to add a few components to the next All School No Staff Meeting.  A few HS students are looking to run a modified mini session with our kids...I thought this may be a good time to implement the idea.  More to come.
  • No All School meeting this week as we moved it up to coincide with Read Across America week.
  • Speaking of Read Across America Week...the door decorating and positive notes was one of my all time favorite activities.  To see post it notes with positive comments promoting the work done on the doors was amazing.  The Kindness wall was a great addition as well.  You people...so good for kids...constantly impressed by the things you come up with and are willing to do.
  • In the lounge I had Julie put up the "How we engage kids" ideas and around those ideas are the feedback from students on how they learn best.  Take a look and see if we are making the connection between how we feel we engage kids and how they want to learn.  Interesting to see.  Thanks for taking part in the activity.
Did They Really Say That?

  • Student asked what they would dress as if we had Artist Dress Up Day...the response..."Vincent Lombardi and pretend to cut off my ear".  The response was great...the look on Tasha's face was better.
For the District...
What's Hoppening?

  • The 180 day bill is moving quickly and should end up on the Governor's desk for approval within the month.  From all indications, that law would be retroactive to this year meaning if we have enough minutes (which we do in all grades except 4K) we would not have to add days to make up for the snow days.  I'll keep you posted.
  • I had a really great meeting with the senior class last week.  I asked them about their experience and what made a great teacher.  They sent their results to the big screen using Poll Everywhere.  Only had a few that took it as a time to throw something on the board just to get a laugh out of those around them.  Made me think that we often don't allow things to happen for the masses because a few get a little loose.  It was a great experience for me.  I asked if anyone wanted to follow up on some of the topics and there are about 10 kids coming in this week for further discussion.
  • Congrats to the basketball teams on wonderful seasons. Obviously, everyone wants to still be playing, but walking away from the season with Conference championships in both boys and girls basketball is something that should make this community very proud.
  • 4K registration was Friday and we are up around 30 kids at this point.  We are hoping to get into the 40-45 range as we have had in the past.  If you know anyone who missed the registration just let me know and we can get them signed up to be Crickets!
  • Registration for EdCampEC is filling up, but we still have plenty of room.  If you would like to join in the fun, here is the link. https://edcamp.wikispaces.com/edcamp+Eau+Claire   Lunch will be served...no cost...and you can use it as a unit for the compensation model.  If you have any questions, just let me know.  Thanks!
  • All Mid Year Growth Model letters will be sent this week.  The documentation will indicate where you are in regard to the process.  If you have any questions, please let me know.  It was really interesting looking over the plans and meeting individually with some of you...there is a definite shift in the way you all look at data and practice.  It is much appreciated as I know it is not easy.  You clearly get out of it what you put in...very impressed with the rigor that a number of you took with the process.  Well done!

Cricket E-Blast 2-3-14

For Starters…
Hi everyone!  Apparently when Katie Borreson changed her name she also changed her birthday.  Clearly I would not have made the mistake of putting it on the calendar wrong...so I just told her to change it to fit my schedule.  Made perfect sense to me. Ha! Sorry Katie...hope your birthday on January 29th was a good one.

  • Sorry about the conference scheduling snafu.  I own that one...poor planning on my part.  The process will be different next year.  My fault.

  • Cluster A Edcamp is this week!!! We hope you get what you need out of the day.  The committee has done a great job of providing multiple tracks for all levels...there should be something for everyone with over 60 offerings.  Have fun...and own the opportunity.  This is clearly an event that you get out what you put in...enjoy!
  • Registration for EdCampEC is now open.  If you would like to join in the fun, here is the link. https://edcamp.wikispaces.com/edcamp+Eau+Claire   Lunch will be served...no cost...and you can use it as a unit for the compensation model.  If you have any questions, just let me know.  Thanks!
  • Digital Learning Day is Wednesday, February 5th.  If you are doing something awesome in your area regarding digital learning, let Jake know and we will get the word out via social media.  Great chance to try something new!
  • The Cricket Chirp will out this week!  Thanks to everyone who contributed!  Our community really enjoys having that connection.
  • Congrats to our FC Dance Team on their 2nd place finish at state this weekend!!! Great accomplishment for the girls...give them a shout if you can!
  • It is National Counselor Appreciation Week!!  Thanks to Laura and Jon for all they do in the building...we are very lucky to have them here.  Great work!

Cricket E-Blast 1-20-14

For Starters…
Hi everyone!  Let's hope the weather has settled in a bit.  Congratulations to those wrapping up semester courses with their students.  I hope the new semester brings a renewed sense of energy!  Good luck in the transition.

Elementary Staff...
2 Weeks at a Glance:
  • Monday, January 20th-School Board Meeting
  • Wednesday January 22-Friday January 24th-Joe Out
  • Thursday, January 23rd-PBIS Tier 2
  • Monday, January 27th-Happy Birthday Bryan Holman!
  • Wednesday, January 28th-Happy Birthday Katie Borreson!
What's Hoppening:
  • We plan to use similar times Night 1 and Night 2 for our conferences...I'm sure there will be adjustments, but let's start there.  I will touch base with Marcy today to get the process started.
  • If you were unable to schedule a meeting regarding your mid year review this week don't worry.  We will connect in the next 2 weeks.
  • I will be out of the building from Wednesday-Friday at the State Education Convention. Follow the #wasb2014 hash tag on Twitter for some of the sessions.  This is a really solid conference for district administrators and school board members...always good things to take away.  I am presenting School District Branding on Wednesday and we will present our Growth Model on Thursday. Should be well worth the time.  Brad will be the contact for the week.

What's Hoppening?

  • We hope Friday was a good chance to review your data and plan accordingly for the 2nd half of the year.  Growth will only happen if you are reviewing and planning moving forward.  We truly appreciate the time and effort that goes into the process.
  • If you have an activity going on in your classroom or area that you would like us to highlight, please shoot us an email or give a call.  We really want to get the word out about the great things happening in the building.
  • This week we will be presenting our Professional Growth Model at the State Education Convention in Milwaukee.  It is such a great feeling to share the work you have all done...we are very proud of where we are, but know it is a model that can grow.  Thank you for your work in this area.  Thank you to Dave Ross and Jessica White who will be part of the presentation team.  I'm sure we will be tweeting from the event...great to get the word out!
  • Our referendum Tier 1 projects are close to complete with some adjustments to the heating/cooling system.  Any remaining dollars will be used to address Tier 2 needs.  If you recall the initial building assessment identified $11.2M in building needs.  We addressed $5.1M of those needs.  Still more to do...but it is important to be fiscally responsible with the taxpayer dollar.  That has been the message from the beginning and will continue to be as we move forward.
  • Registration for EdCamp Eau Claire opens this Friday at noon.  This is not a district initiative but I am on the planning committee so I thought I would let you know.  The date is April 12th and it will be held at the new Education building at UWEC.  EdCamp PD has been really beneficial from my perspective...you get people to a location who want to grow and they devise the agenda for the day.  We are capping the event at 300 people so registration will close pretty quickly.  The day can clearly be used at part of our point system as well.
